ARX History
Advocacy Resource Exchange has evolved from the many years of good work developed by Citizen Advocacy Information and Training (CAIT). Whilst CAIT rigidly adhered to a ‘purist’ model of citizen advocacy, its resources and knowledge base was becoming increasingly irrelevant, and out of touch with reality as locally based citizen advocacy schemes were ‘diversifying’ to meet the local need.
Advocacy Resource Exchange (ARX) was established and incorporated as a private limited company number 5163457 on 25th June 2004 and registered as charity number 1108128 on 16th February 2005.
CAIT/ARX was responsible for creating Advocacy Across London (now Action 4 Advocacy) and the National Coalition of Citizen Advocacy schemes, now both established as charities in their own right. It also developed a number of other projects such as “Sounds Good”, looking at advocacy for young people in transition, “Supported Voices” addressing the advocacy needs of people from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities and the National Advocacy Helpline which is designed to connect people who need advocacy with the advocacy support they need.
ARX has now developed to meet the changing needs of any who seek advocacy intervention for whatever reason. ARX does this through promoting and supporting the provision of a choice of advocacy models to a broad range of disabled and/or disadvantaged people in order to secure their Human and Civil Rights.
ARX continue to work in partnership with the CA Coalition to promote a model of “Advocacy Plus”
