As a part of ARX resource exchange policy we provide information about training events that may be of interest to advocates. We are not responsible for delivering any of the training unless specifically stated, and cannot therefore accept liability for any work carried out by the organisations listed. This is not a list of recommended schemes, but a list of trainers that we are aware of.
Advocacy and Dementia
If your advocacy organisation works with people who have dementia, DAN (Dementia Advocacy Network) provides a variety of training programmes on this subject. Children's Advocacy
CROA (Children's Rights Officers and Advocates) deliver a wide range of advocacy, children's rights and participation training from 3 hr workshops to 2 days OCN accredited advocacy with children and young people course.
Their vision is that CROA improves access to and promotes the human rights of Children & Young People in need through campaigning, training & policy support for Children's Rights Officers & Advocates. NYAS (National Youth Advocacy Service) has been delivering the Certificate in Independent Advocacy across England and Wales for 2 years. NYAS deliver a blended learning programme and take a bespoke approach. NYAS has a bank of vocationally competent tutor support assessors working exclusively and trained by NYAS. Other Advocacy Training
Action for Advocacy have a varied programme of training including introduction to advocacy training, principles into action and human rights training for advocates and advocacy managers. For more detailed information go to their website
Advocacy Training is a partnership of two organisations, SEAP and Kate Mercer Training (KMT) and is a new business concentrating on delivering advocacy evaluation and training across the UK. You can see more information on their training programme on their website.
British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD) offers advice and training about advocacy to those who provide services for people with a learning disability. They also work with local authorities and other organisations from the private sector to advise and evaluate their practices in user involvement.
